Nervous System Regulation, Part 1

Updated: Mar 4

When my body learned how to stop being the guard dog.

I bought a sauna membership for $200 a month.

Yes, yes I did.

This means two times each week I walk ~25 minutes each way to Worthy Self Care Studio in South Berkeley. I allow myself to get out of my head and pay attention to details on the street, the people I'm walking by.

I am greeted with kindness when I walk in.

The infrared heat produces a gentle (and yet prolific) sweat.

I sometimes do my stretching routine in there.

I always close with some decaf tea for the walk home.

Does this sound indulgent to you?

This is a new ritual. My time and energy are sacred - so, I started acting like it.

Which of these is your body craving the most RIGHT NOW ???

  • 0%Infrared Sauna

  • 0%Cold Plunge

  • 0%Redlight Therapy

  • 0%Massage

You can vote for more than one answer.

I won't stop there with you.

I also bought a fitness studio membership for another $200 a month.

Remember my intention to get strong? Well, I need some help doing this and I want more community. Across the street from the sauna and self-care studio is a brand new functional fitness studio, Worthy Breath & Body. I go there for yoga, pilates, strength-training (kettlebells with good form), and meditation.

What do I say to myself when I'm still sore from a workout and I signed up for Yoga the next day?

Just show up. Your friends are waiting to see you, love!

Doesn't all this walking to/from and taking workout classes eat up a lot of time? Why Yes, yes it does. And it has given me the chance to delete and unsubscribe from a number of activities that I just don't need as badly right now.

What are you holding onto out of loyalty that could free up something more expansive right now?
